FAQ
Avatars let players personalize how they appear in the gamification widget, giving them an identity they care about within your platform. Beyond decoration, avatars become another reward layer: you can hand them out through missions, tournaments, mini-games, badges, raffles, the store, campaigns, and automation rules, so earning a distinctive avatar becomes a goal in itself that drives engagement.
Two routes, and you decide per avatar. Free avatars are available to everyone immediately. Reward-based avatars must be earned or purchased, for example won from a mission or tournament, or bought as a store item. You can set a default avatar assigned to all users, and if you don't, each new user is given a random one from your free avatars. For reward-based avatars you also choose whether players see them locked (grayed out as something to chase) or hidden entirely until unlocked.
It's a separate, AI-powered layer worth understanding clearly. Avatars V2 itself is a free feature, while Avatar Customization is a paid add-on. With customization enabled, players can apply operator-defined options like accessories or style changes (a red hat, green glasses, a different hairstyle), and each application uses AI to generate a new variation of their avatar. You define the available options; players pay for each one with points, gems, or diamonds.
A player opens their avatar, picks a customization option you've set up (say "Red Hat" for 5 gems), confirms the cost, and the system generates a new version of the avatar with that feature applied. Each application creates a unique new variation, and players keep a history of everything they've generated, so they can revert to an earlier version at any time. If a player lacks the balance for an option, it's automatically grayed out.
Two layers of limits, since each generation has a cost. There's a per-user monthly cap (for example, 100 customizations per player per month) and a global operator cap across all users (for example, 1,000 per month). When a player hits their personal limit they're asked to try again later; when the global limit is reached the feature pauses for everyone until it resets. Both limit messages are fully translatable so you can word them to fit your brand.
Yes. Each avatar has an active/inactive status, a display priority that controls its order in the widget, and an optional availability period so free avatars show only between set dates (in either fixed UTC or the player's local time zone). Reward-based avatars add the locked-versus-hidden visibility choice. You can also roll the whole feature out to test users first before exposing it to real players.
Both. Because avatars can be issued as rewards from missions, badges, tournaments, mini-games, raffles, campaigns, and automation rules, you can make a particular avatar the prize for a specific accomplishment. If you sell an avatar as a store item, it's recommended to limit it to a one-time lifetime purchase (and optionally hide it once bought), so players don't end up buying the same avatar repeatedly.
Avatars are part of the same gamification system, so they draw on the same rewards, currencies, and segmentation as everything else. The same points, gems, and diamonds players earn elsewhere pay for customizations, and avatars surface on leaderboards and across the widget. You also have display controls, such as hiding avatar icons from leaderboards, if you prefer a cleaner look in certain places.
There's a legacy avatar mode, but it's more limited. In legacy mode users get a random avatar they can change, but it doesn't support visibility rules, assigning avatars as rewards from missions, tournaments, mini-games, or store items, or any AI customization. When moving to Avatars V2 you can keep legacy avatars live for real users while you set up and test the new ones, then switch over when ready. If no avatar system is enabled at all, players instead see an image representing their current level.
